A small studio, one obsession
At Nordic Nuances we asked; what would a candle look like if the wax was the object, not the wrapper around it?
Manor is the answer. Every shell is poured into a custom mould, cooled overnight on a marble bench, and quality-checked before it ships in a wooden crate that doubles as a display stand. We work in small batches, typically twenty candles per batch, because every candle deserves attention. The first run is capped at 20.
What makes Manor different

Materials
- Outer layer: Food-grade paraffin wax. Inner layer: Soy wax, beeswax, palm wax — A clean-burning blend that produces minimal soot.
- Wood wicks — Three wicks, hand-placed for an even triple-flame and the characteristic soft crackle.
- No synthetic dyes — Formulated without synthetic colourants. Just wax, wicks, and nothing else.
Care & burn
An 11-kilogram, three-wicked candle behaves a little differently than a jar candle. A few minutes of attention on the first burn sets the rhythm for the next hundred hours.
- The first burn — Light all three wicks together and let the pool of wax reach the inner edge of the shell, usually 2 to 3 hours.
- Trimming the wicks — Wooden wicks need a clean edge to crackle properly. Before each burn, snap or trim the charred tip back to about 3-4 mm. Ash and curled char muffle the sound and smoke the flame.
- Burn time per session — Burn for at least an hour but no longer than four.
- The igloo, season two — Once the inner core has burned down (roughly 80-100 hours in), keep the shell and refill with wax DIY. Manor was designed to outlive its own wick.
- Storage — Keep Manor out of direct sunlight and away from radiators above 25 °C. The outer wax holds its shape but softens in heat. A cool shelf or display table is ideal.
- Safety — Burn on a level, heat-safe surface with at least 30 cm of clearance above and on each side. Never leave a lit candle unattended; keep out of reach of children, pets, and drafts.

- How does a containerless candle work?
- The outer shell is a thick-walled wax sculpture that holds its shape permanently. Inside, a softer wax core burns down around three wooden wicks. Light travels through the shell as it warms (the igloo effect) and once the core is gone, the shell stays as a sculptural object.
- How is the Manor different from a standard jar candle?
- Most candles are wax inside a vessel (glass, tin, or ceramic), that's discarded once the wax is gone. The Manor is the vessel: a 25 lb sculpture poured entirely from wax, with no jar. A typical 220 g jar candle burns ~50 hours from a single cotton wick; the Manor burns ~100 hours from three wood wicks.
- How does the light travel through the wax?
- As the inner core heats up, the surrounding shell becomes semi-translucent, similar to holding a flashlight against your palm. Light scatters through the crystalline structure of the wax, warming the room with a soft, amber glow that shifts in intensity as the flame moves. No two evenings look identical.
- Do I have to manage three wicks?
- Light all three at once and trim the charred tips before each burn. That's it. The wicks are wood, for an even, low crackle.
- How long does it last?
- Approximately 100 hours of active burn time on the inner core. After that, the shell continues to glow with a tea-light or LED placed inside, most owners keep Manor on display long after the core is gone (or make a DIY project out of it and refill the core).
- What's the wax actually made from, and why this blend over paraffin?
- The outer layer consists of food-grade paraffin wax. The inner layer consists of soy wax, beeswax, and palm wax. We chose this exact ratio after a year of small test pours: it's what holds the igloo effect without sagging under the heat of three wooden wicks. No synthetic dyes, no fragrance fillers.
- Can it be used as home décor after burning?
- Yes, that's the point. Once the inner core is spent, the wax shell stands on its own as a sculptural object. Place a small tea-light or flameless LED inside the cavity (or whatever you think would fit). Some owners also fill it with new wax as a DIY project.
- How is it shipped?
- Each candle ships in a custom-fitted wooden crate. Shipping is calculated at checkout. If you live in the Miami, FL area we also hand deliver currently.
- Returns and warranty?
- Manor is hand-poured to order; returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery for unburned candles in original packaging. Defects (cracks, structural flaws on arrival) are replaced or refunded in full — just send a photo to hello@nordicnuances.com
